Kicking Up The Dirt - SuperCheap Auto Track Championship Round 3
Joanne White posted Sunday November 2, 2014.

It has been a long time coming but last night Danny Reidy finally managed to pull off a win at AusDeck Patios and Roofing Archerfield Speedway after dominating for most of the night and holding off an aggressive challenge from Luke Oldfield during the feature event. Reidy and Andrew Scheuerle had started from the front row of the A-Main and while Reidy got the jump on the start Oldfield from position four was quick on the low line to secure the race lead by the end of the first lap. Reidy however was all class as he fought his way back into the race lead, the pair really putting on a spectacular show for the race fans. The battle at the front only intensified as they entered lapped traffic but at the fall of the chequered flag it was Reidy who took the win and stood atop the podium. Luke Oldfield finished second with the ever-consistent Andrew Scheuerle rounding out the podium. Bryan Mann had an unbelievable run in the #16 racer to finish a very impressive fourth after initially transferring from the B-main, while Jamie Bricknell, in his first appearance at AusDeck Archerfield Speedway this season, rounded out the top five.

Qualifying got underway with each of the 25 entrants qualifying individually from the infield. Luke Oldfield was first up and set the benchmark at a blistering 11.598 seconds. His time proved to be unbeatable last night with Danny Reidy second quickest with an 11.733 second recorded lap. Paul Rooks is really have a brilliant run so far this season, and when he stopped the clock at 11.741 seconds he secured third fastest in qualifying, only just beating Terry Bracken in fourth position. Bracken, making his season debut in the immaculately presented Mitchell Motorsport #19 racer, was impressive with an 11.744 second recorded lap, just three thousandths of a second slower than Rooks. Jamie Bricknell, also in his first Brisbane appearance this season in the #36 Titan Garages racer, rounded out the fastest five qualifiers. David Whell was sixth quickest while Bryan Mann, Brent Kratzmann, Andrew Scheuerle and Kevin Titman, all of whom are more accustomed to being a little closer to the front of the qualifying results, rounded out the top ten.

Heat one started with Anthony Lambert and Stephen Greer from the front row with Andrew Liebke and Brock Dean right behind. Lambert got the jump on the start with Greer settling into second and Liebke and Dean briefly arguing over third. Dean won that battle, leaving Liebke to try to hold off a hard-charging Bryan Mann. Luke Oldfield was coming on strong from the rear of the field, wheel-standing the NQ17 racer coming out of turn two as he raced underneath David Whell and set his sights on Bryan Mann. Oldfield ran around the outside of Mann through turns three and four, slipping in between Mann and Liebke. Only a lap later and Oldfield was working the low line in an effort to move in front of Liebke, though Liebke fought back valiantly on the highline. The pair raced side-by-side for a few corners before Oldfield managed to pull ahead, while Bryan Mann swiftly followed him on the low line to relegate Liebke one more position back. Anthony Lambert however was faultless out in front and went on to take the win with Stephen Greer across the line in second and Brock Dean in third. Luke Oldfield, Bryan Mann, David Whell, Andrew Liebke, Dave Fanning and Luke Manttan rounded out the finishers.

Ben Hilder and Mick Sauer led the start of the second heat, with Sauer getting a brilliant start on the outside and securing the race lead by the time they entered turn one. Hilder, while initially challenged for position by Mark Pholi, managed to secure second, leaving Pholi to battle with Jamie Bricknell, Brad Ayers and Brent Kratzmann. Bricknell quickly found a way through but Pholi was able to hold the rest off and even opened a small margin over his rivals. Mick Sauer went on to take the win with Ben Hilder in second ahead of Jamie Bricknell, Mark Pholi, Brent Kratzmann, Danny Reidy, Brad Ayers and James Grady, who made his on-track return after being badly burnt in a truck accident six months ago while travelling to the speedway.

Kristy Bonsey and Dan Moes shared the front row for the start of the third heat with Dan Murray and Kevin Titman close behind. Moes got the jump when the lights went green, with Bonsey settling into second and Titman in third. Terry Bracken had dramas in the Mitchell Motorsport #19 racer and faded to the rear of the field, while Andrew Scheuerle and Dan Murray argued over mid-field positions. But all eyes were on Titman and Bonsey towards the front of the field. Titman was relentless in his pursuit of second, searching high and low for the right path through while also giving Bonsey plenty of space. Bonsey, running a 360ci engine in the Q42 racer, hit her marks on a difficult track, running a smooth, consistent line with few mistakes and making Titman work hard to find a way past. Dan Moes went on to take the win, with Kevin Titman eventually getting the better of Bonsey to secure second with Bonsey crossing the line in third. Dan Murray finished fourth and led Andrew Scheuerle, Paul Rooks, Darren Silcock and Terry Bracken across the line.

Heat four started with Brad Ayers and Stephen Greer from the front row with Ayers getting the jump and Dan Moes, from position three, quickly slipping into second. Further back in the field Luke Oldfield and Terry Bracken were trying to work their way closer to the front, Oldfield on the low line, Bracken trying to run up high. Oldfield had more success on the bottom initially and managed to get past David Whell but lost a lot of ground half a lap later when he took evasive action to avoid Bock Dean and Steven Greer who were recovering after coming together in turn two. Dean managed to maintain his position while Terry Bracken took advantage of a gap that had opened on the low line and slipped in behind Dean. Oldfield was forced to claw his way back from virtually the rear of the field and his determination to get back towards the front was incredible to watch. Dave Fanning, a newcomer to Sprintcars but a very experienced competitor in other divisions, had a brilliant run and is really settling in well to his new ride. Brock Dean and Dan Moes had a thrilling battle over the minor positions in the closing stages of the race. Dean spent the middle part of the race closing in on the tail of Moes, with the pair spending the final couple of laps locked in an intense battle over second. Dean was unyielding and determined on the low line, eventually getting the job done with less than a lap left to run. Brad Ayers was untouchable in the race lead and went on to take the win, with Brock Dean in second and Dan Moes in third. Terry Bracken crossed the line in fourth ahead of Luke Oldfield, Dave Fanning, Stephen Greer, David Whell and Luke Manttan.

Ben Hilder started from pole position for the start of heat five, with Andrew Liebke alongside. The first start was aborted with Hilder deemed to have jumped the start. Hilder was relegated to the second row for the restart, with Mick Sauer now elevated to pole position. Sauer got the initial jump when the lights went green, but Liebke fought back hard on the highline as they headed into turn one and managed to secure the lead by the time they exited turn two. Sauer settled briefly into second but soon came on strong to take Liebke on the bottom and steal the lead. Sauer began to pull away ever so slightly while Liebke found Mark Pholi on his tail tank. It was an intense battle between the pair, but before too long Pholi had slipped though on the low line just as Sauer had done a few laps before. Ben Hilder and Danny Reidy battled towards the rear of the field while Kevin Titman had a quick look at getting past Andrew Liebke before going on the defensive from a hard charging Bryan Mann. Mann was trying to run the outside line, around Titman and the pair ran side-by-side for a couple of laps. Unfortunately for Mann contact with the turn two wall would bring about a premature end to his heat race and leave the #16 racer with a flat right rear tyre and broken front end. With just three laps left to run Mick Sauer led the restart from Mark Pholi and Andrew Liebke. Danny Reidy got a brilliant start and quickly moved past Kevin Titman and set his sights on Liebke. In only a lap Reidy had made his way around the outside of Liebke and was off after Pholi, while Titman and Liebke resumed their battle for the minor places. Mick Sauer went on to take the win with Mark Pholi in second and Danny Reidy third. Andrew Liebke managed to hold of Kevin Titman to finish fourth, with Titman officially fifth ahead of Ben Hilder. Darren Silcock and Bryan Mann both failed to finish the event.

Heat six, the last heat event of the night, saw Kristy Bonsey and Anthony Lambert share the front row for the start, with Bonsey getting the jump and quickly securing the lead when the green flag flew. Unfortunately the race was brought under caution when Anthony Lambert unexpectedly slowed to a stop in turn two. Andrew Scheuerle was elevated to the front row for the start alongside Kristy Bonsey and while Bonsey got a great start, there was no stopping Scheuerle as he quickly settled into the race lead and began opening a comfortable margin over the rest of the field. Paul Rooks, Brent Kratzmann, Dan Murray and Jamie Bricknell all made their way past Bonsey, while Rooks and Kratzmann had a thrilling battle for the minor places that kept everyone entertained. Dan Murray and Jamie Bricknell also had a great battle mid-field, but there was nothing anyone could do to reel in Scheuerle. Andrew Scheuerle went on to take the win ahead of Paul Rooks, Brent Kratzmann, Dan Murray, Jamie Bricknell, Kristy Bonsey and James Grady. Anthony Lambert did not finish the event.

Once the points from Time Trails and the heat events had been tallied, the top eight cars would contest a series of shootouts. The first Shootout, Bronze, was to be contested by those who were sitting third through to eighth in points. As a group of six they hit the track for some qualifying laps with the fastest four cars advancing to the Silver Shootout. Danny Reidy was fastest of the six cars in the Bronze Shootout, with Jamie Bricknell, Andrew Scheuerle and Brent Kratzmann also transferring to the Silver Shootout. Kevin Titman and Terry Bracken finished fifth and sixth in the Bronze Shootout and would start the A-Main from positions seven and eight.

Danny Reidy, Jamie Bricknell, Andrew Scheuerle, and Brent Kratzmann were joined on track by Paul Rooks and Luke Oldfield for the Silver Shootout. This time it was Oldfield who secured the fastest time, with Brent Kratzmann, Danny Reidy and Andrew Scheuerle to transfer to the Gold Shootout. Jamie Bricknell and Paul Rooks would start the A-Main event from positions five and six respectively.

The Gold Shootout was a four-lap race, with cars started in reverse order to leave Andrew Scheuerle from pole position with Danny Reidy alongside. When the lights went green both Scheuerle and Reidy got great starts. It looked like Scheuerle was going to secure the lead but Reidy fought back hard on the top-side and managed to secure the lead. Oldfield had a big look around the outside of Scheuerle too in turn four of the opening lap, before switching to the low line through turn two and back to the highline again for turn three. Unfortunately a little nudge of the turn three wall saw Oldfield not only loose ground on Scheuerle, but also a position to Kratzmann. Danny Reidy went on to take the win with Andrew Scheuerle in second ahead of Brent Kratzmann and Luke Oldfield. Reidy admitted he would have loved to take up the Kratzmann Challenge and invert the top fourteen starters for the A-Main event but declined to actually to do so on this occasion.

Nine cars took to the track for the 10-lap B-Main event. Dan Murray and Andrew Liebke shared the front row for the start, with Bryan Mann and Stephen Greer on their tail tanks. Murray got a brilliant start from pole position and led the first lap of the race while Liebke began looking for the way past. Liebke took to the highline to challenge Murray for the lead, eventually getting the job done and stealing the lead only a couple of laps into the race. Murray however fought back hard on the low line, running the gutter and not prepared to forfeit the win without an intense and entertaining battle. While the battle between the leading duo was hard to tear your eyes from, Bryan Mann was certainly the one to watch, and there was little doubt he would make the transfer to the A-Main. Mann skilfully made his way past both Murray and Liebke to settle into the race lead and began opening a sizable margin. Further back in the field Dave Fanning was putting on a show of his own as he not only worked his way into a transfer position but eventually up to second and proved that he is quickly going to become a very strong contender in the Sprintcar ranks. Bryan Mann went on to take the win ahead of Dave Fanning, and Andrew Liebke, with Dan Murray securing the final transfer position to the A-Main. Anthony Lambert finished fifth ahead of Stephen Greer, Kristy Bonsey and James Grady. Luke Manttan did not finish the race.

Danny Reidy and Andrew Scheuerle lined up on the front row for the start of the 30-lap A-Main with a further sixteen cars behind them. Reidy got the jump on the start and quickly secured the race lead. It didn’t last long though as Luke Oldfield was absolutely brilliant on the low line through turn two and ducked underneath both Scheuerle and Reidy to steal the lead before the race was even half a lap old. Reidy however was far from done and within just a couple of laps had managed to regain the lead. The battle between Reidy and Oldfield raged for every lap of the race, with Oldfield regularly having a look at getting past Reidy, especially in lapped traffic. But Reidy was on a mission and seemed determined to finally get a win at the Brisbane venue. Further back in the field Paul Rooks and Brent Kratzmann had a brilliant battle, the two have both had spectacular starts to their 2014-2015 season and are in remarkable form right now, really stepping up and putting on some breath-taking racing action. Bryan Mann was again the man to watch having started significantly further back in the field than he should have after his heat race incident cost him dearly in points. But with the heats behind him Mann was certainly focused on the task at hand and after starting the A-Main event from position 15, he gradually, skilfully, spectacularly worked his way closer to the front of the field. The first 26 frantic laps ran without a stoppage but the race was brought under caution with four laps left to run when Mark Pholi came to a stop in turn two. Pholi restarted at the rear of the field as Danny Reidy led them away, chased by Luke Oldfield and Andrew Scheuerle. Jamie Bricknell, Kevin Titman, and Bryan Mann were not far behind and when the lights went green once more Mann instantly took to the highline to run around the outside of both Titman and Bricknell. Bricknell put up a fight but there was no stopping Mann and it certainly would have been interesting to see how the race would have unfolded had he started closer to the front. Danny Reidy went on to take a hard fought, well-deserved and long over-due win, with Luke Oldfield and Andrew Scheuerle joining him on the podium. Bryan Mann finished a very impressive fourth after starting the race from position fifteen and was awarded the Hard Charger Award, while Jamie Bricknell finished fifth in a solid result for his first night at AusDeck Archerfield Speedway this season. Kevin Titman crossed the line in sixth ahead of Paul Rooks, Terry Bracken, Mick Sauer, Brad Ayers, Mark Pholi, David Whell, Dave Fanning, Brock Dean, Dan Moes and Andrew Liebke. Brent Kratzmann and Dan Murray both failed to finish the race.

Sprintcars Queensland will take next weekend off before returning to AusDeck Patios and Roofing Archerfield Speedway the following weekend, Saturday 15 November 2014. It will be one thrilling night of Sprintcar racing action that you will not want to miss. See you all track side!
