Wynne Wins At Mac's
Paris Charles posted Tuesday July 6, 2010.
Gladstone Sprintcar competitor Tony Wynne has kicked off his northern Queensland Speedway season with a solid victory in front of a large crowd at the Mackay Speedway. While the meeting may have been semi low key for the winged divison the racing was still of a strong standard as Wynne proved to be 'the Rabbit chased by the Greyhounds' for the majority of the evening aboard his newly aquired Quick Time racer package.
In each event Wynne moved forward and or consolidated his position and was not passed by another competitor under green. This was Wynne's third meeting in the new car and the welder from Gladstone put this performance down to the handling of his Quick Time Chassis and Shock package. 'I must give a big thanks to Al Woods. The new QT chassis was real nice to drive as it feels really stuck to the track, you can always feel your front wheels and it still feels free to drive. Also the great help we have had from Paul with the QT shocks has made a big difference. The track started reasonably heavy and as the night went on the condition of the track went away from us until we were left with a slick but racey surface for the feature event,' said a jubilant Wynne.
In the opening heat Wynne started from from the rear and advanced to a solid fifth while Dwayne Legarde made the most of a front row start to lead from green to chequered over Aiden Gee and Chris Camilleri.
Heat two saw Wynne move from position four to win, while the third and final heat allowed Wynne the oppertunity to lead from the front and show the other competitors the quickest way to the finish line, Aiden Gee and Mike Walsh tailing Wynne in both heats.
The feature event proved to be a solid victory for Wynne taking the #92 Choice Petroleum / Wynweld Quick Time to victory lane in dominating fashion. A consistent Aiden Gee proved to be the best of the rest to claim the runner up position in the feature after a taking the three consecutitive seconds in the heat races aboard the 38 Metec / Pro Wheel machine while Legarde followed him closley to the line. Rounding out the top six was Michael Walsh, Paul Reddacliff and Brent Aprile.
The Sprintcars will again fire up for action at the Mackay Speedway on Saturday 31st of July.
