Gessner Wins In Toowoomba; Mcfadden Wins Qld Sprintcar Tri - City Shootout
Jak posted Monday April 5, 2010.

Cameron Gessner became the third different winner in as many nights when he led every lap of the Qld Sprintcar Tri-City Shootout Feature at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba on Sunday April 4 but his victory was still not enough to stop James McFadden taking the overall Shootout crown.

Gessner swept the program; setting the quickest time in the qualifying hot lap sessions, winning the R&R Racewear Dash and then the A-Main. The victory was his second of the season at the venue - his first coming in the annual Crispy Memorial event in February - and his points haul moved him from sixth in the standings at the start of the night to third overall behind McFadden and Todd Wanless.

McFadden's led the points heading into the final night of the Shootout but his shot at the Title looked in jeopardy when he pulled the #25 Totally Work Wear Sprintcar to the infield with a broken rear end on lap 16 of the Feature as he chased down Gessner, giving Wanless a chance to steal it away from him if he could finish second or better in the race. Wanless however finished just short of what he needed to do to claim the overall Title, his third place behind Gessner and Darrell Hodges in the Feature keeping James on top of the point ladder by a mere four points after the three nights of racing.

The fast Toowoomba raceway always provides fans with a mix of close wheel to wheel racing and the inevitable accidents that go with that, and Sunday night's event was no different. Allan Woods unfortunately got the trifecta when he flipped for the third night in a row during the Feature while Paul Rooks, David Muir, Paul Morris and Matthew Butler also flipped during different stages of the night.

It was however a multiple car flip on the back straight during the B-Main that held everyone's concern. David Muir, after repairing the damage to the #18 Capalaba Wreckers Racing/P&M Motor Body Repairs Maxim from his Heat race crash, was involved in the accident and was taken to Toowoomba Hospital by Ambulance for pre-cautionary checks. The meeting was delayed for some time due to the accident, with track staff also needing to repair the safety fence before racing could resume.

The final night's Heat race wins went to Tony Wynne (2), Brent Kratzmann (2), Tim Garrett and Todd Wanless. Gessner won the Dash from Wanless, McFadden, Hodges, Adrian Maher and Brodie Tulloch while NSW driver Ian Loudon was awarded the win in the B-Main after the race was declared, with Tim Garrett, Allan Woods, Gary Finglas, Murray Gibson and Troy Coomber also transferring to the A-Main.
